Ketogenic Nutrition Outperforms Mediterranean and Low-Fat Plant Diets

I recently sat down with Max Peterson of Washington University to discuss his new randomized clinical trial in Cell Metabolism. They compared ketogenic, Mediterranean, and low-fat plant-forward diets, controlling weight loss to about 10%. Spoiler: they did not get the same metabolic results. There was a clear winner:

🥩 Ketogenic nutrition
• 50% prediabetes reversal
• 67% reduction in liver fat
• 74% reduction in 24-hour insulin exposure
• 20% reduction in 24-hour glucose exposure

For comparison, prediabetes reversal occurred in 29% of the Mediterranean group and just 7% of the low-fat plant-forward group. Weight loss matters, but what you eat matters too.

I break down the study, the differences between the three diets, and what these findings mean in our latest blog post.
